Nick Bristol Bio

Nick in an Ice CaveI live in Lone Rock, Wisconsin with my wife Cheri. Lone Rock is a small town in the beautiful Wisconsin River Valley and is located in the southwest part of the state. I love this area with all the hills and valleys and little back roads that wind around forever it seems. This area is also what got me interested in nature and then photography. I have been taking pictures here for more than 30 years now and still feel like I have just started capturing the beauty of this area.

The love of the outdoors has been a determining force in my life. For more than 10 years I was a beekeeper in southern Wisconsin and the time spent in the bee fields taught me to appreciate the beauty of the landscape and its inhabitant even more than I already did.

I am a full time nature photographer and spend most of my time in the upper mid west area which includes Upper Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota. Lake Superior is one of my favorite places and I love photographing it. It is different every time I go there and I never tire of it.

Nick at homeFor 30 years or so I captured my images on film. Today I use digital and it took awhile for me to make the adjustment, but it seems to work well for me. The camera is just a tool to capture an image and what people use is totally up to them. It is the person behind the tool that creates the image and captures the feelings and emotions that go with it. No camera (film or digital) can do that on its own.

Next to my family, photographing nature is the most important thing to me. I will continue to work at this until I can’t do it anymore. I hope in some way the images I capture will help people appreciate what we have and realize that we have to protect and preserve it.

Thank you for taking time to look at my website. I hope you enjoy the images you see here.
